A CRICKET club that was 'nearly blown up' by vandals will be installing 12ft gates at their driveway to prevent further problems.

The chairman of Norton cricket club has said the club has no choice but to act after vandals broke in causing extensive damage and leaving a mess behind.

Dormston Cook said: "Things have settled down in relation to incidents of vandalism, but the main thing is the strain it has put on our purse strings.

"We are putting up two big 12ft double gates in front of the clubhouse drive to stop the public from using it as a cut-through from St Peter's to Norton.

"I'm still in the process of getting quotes for how much it will cost.

"The biggest cost will be putting the gates on the front."

Mr Cook estimates that repairing the damage caused by the vandals on December 28 will take a few weeks.

He said he is still waiting for an update from the police about the incident.

He added: "I'm really disappointed. I've heard absolutely nothing.

"They had fingerprints and they said someone would be paid a visit.

"I was expecting them to find someone."

We have contacted West Mercia Police for comment.

Three hooded teenagers were caught on CCTV who smashed the club's windows, damaged the doors and left gas canisters on. A replica handgun was also found left at the club.
