A WOMAN has been praised after serving an incredible 10 million people during her career at a well-known service station.

Bosses say Shirley Evans is famous for being able to serve 120 customers an hour at the M5 service station.

She has spent 35 years with Roadchef at Strensham West Motorway Service area.

Richard Tindale, Chief Operating Officer for Roadchef, presented Shirley Evans with a long service award.

Shirley said: “I am thrilled to receive the Long Service Award and the 35 years I have worked for Roadchef have been fantastic.

"The support from everyone has been second to none and it’s wonderful to be part of a company that regards its staff so highly and looks after every single employee.

"I can’t wait for many more enjoyable years at Roadchef!”

Since beginning her Roadchef career in 1986, Shirley worked in the ‘Sign Post Shop’ at Strensham West services when it was operated by Kenning Motor Group.

Over the years, Shirley has stayed with the site as it was relocated, renamed and refurbished, as well as seeing the M5’s transformation from a 2-lane motorway to a 3-lane.

Having spent most of her career helping customers in the Southbound site, for the past two years Shirley has manned Strensham’s northbound WHSmith and Spar shops.

A spokesperson from Roadchef said: "Readers may recognise Shirley for her help on the shop floor, but due to her longstanding service, she may have been spotted in various locations across the Roadchef site over the years.

"Regular customers would recognise her and she's a point of knowledge for many."

Richard Tindale, chief operating officer who presented the Long Service Award said: “Shirley is extremely reliable and I know the team find her a pleasure to work with.

"She always has a smile on her face and her efforts of going above and beyond expectations to de-stress and delight customers never lets us down.

"Everyone at Roadchef Strensham is extremely proud to have Shirley on-site and we can’t thank her enough for her commitment over the years.”
