A BIT of history came to life for pupils at the Cotswold School this week when they were visited by a Civil War expert.

David Lord, a member of a Civil War re-enactment group and a nationally-renowned Civil War expert, brought along a variety of weapons and costumes to give pupils the chance to learn more about this tumultuous period in the country's history.

The event was particularly apt for the school as the area where its playing fields now lie was used as a Royalist gathering ground prior to the Battle of Stow in March 1646, the last battle of the Civil War.

Headteacher Ann Holland said: "It was a great opportunity for pupils to get a hands-on experience of history from an expert."
