THIS week Wotton Area Climate Action Network (CAN) is sharing its top tips for a low carbon new year 2021 in a shop window on Long Street.

The tips are part of the Climate Action Network’s mission to make the Wotton area carbon neutral by 2030.

Tina Le Coyte, Wotton Area CAN member said: "They include all kinds of actions and information to reduce your carbon footprint, from lowering the thermostat in your home or getting a smart meter, to ideas for lifestyle change.

"There are also signposts to resources like the Wotton Freecycle Facebook page and the Olio app which can help to avoid waste."

Tina said there is lots we can all do in our own lives to take action to address the changing climate.

She said: “We pooled all the ideas of the Climate Action Network members to come up with these top tips – around the themes of nature, transport, food, energy and stuff. We’d welcome further ideas and examples from the local community, to celebrate individuals’ climate actions in the Wotton Area.”

Sam Munton, Chair of Wotton Area CAN added: “Due to the Covid restrictions, it’s been more difficult recently to connect with the local community. Thanks to the kind support of the owner of the shop premises, which was formerly the Be Chic salon, we’re able to share this window display, to get people talking about the positive action they’re taking in our local area”.

To get involved in any of the CAN projects, or to sign up to receive regular e-newsletters, contact Wotton Area CAN via the website: WottonAreaCAN.org or email: WottonAreaCAN@gmail.com

Wotton Area Climate Action Network is part of a network of CAN groups across Stroud District and beyond, which are developing practical local projects to address the changing climate.

Wotton Area CAN has six focus areas: land use, single use plastic, waste and recycling, transport, home energy and biodiversity – and has recently completed a big tree planting project at Knapp Field in Wotton, in partnership with Wotton Town Council.
