STROUD poet Adam Horovitz features on Cerys Matthews' latest album, We Come From The Sun, which was released today.

The album was composed by Cerys and the Hidden Orchestra, and features ten UK poets.

Ahead of today's release, Adam's track was played on the Steve Wright in the Afternoon show on Radio 2, on Wednesday afternoon.

Adam was invited to the legendary Abbey Road studios in London - used by the the likes of the Beatles, Kate Bush and Amy Winehouse - to record his poem back in February.

"I can’t stress enough how much of a thrill it was to get to record in Abbey Road, and get a quick tour of the big Beatles studio afterwards," he said.

Adam was recording his poem, A House Built From Cloth.

"It's an old poem - originally written for the Stroud Textile Festival's fashion show - about growing up in the Slad and Stroud valleys, and how the cloth industry is woven deep into the history and the landscape here," he said.

"When I met Cerys at the time of the Laurie Lee centenary, I gave her a copy of my first book, Turning, which it's in, and she seems to have fallen in love with that poem.

"So when she was putting this album together, she called on me to go up to Abbey Road Studios along with nine other poets, including Lemn Sissay, Liz Berry and more, to record it.

"We each recorded a few poems that day, and then Cerys chose the ones she wanted to work with.

"Cerys has collaborated with the Hidden Orchestra on the album's music, which was written after the recording of the poems, and uses found sounds as a deep part of the music - for example, in A House Built From Cloth the music is built from birdsong and oboe.

"It's definitely not a lockdown poem, as it was written in the early 2000s, but it is very much a poem about the landscape I have inhabited much more closely during lockdown, walking through the valley I have known since childhood.

"A little corner of Stroud is being celebrated on We Come From the Sun."

Cerys said “I’ve always been in awe of the power of a great turn of phrase; in poems, songs and prose.

“So I invited poets whose work I admired and had championed for years to join me in this project."

We Come From The Sun is out today and is available from Trading Post and Sound Records in Stroud.
