MORETON town councillors are to ask Cotswold District Council to prosecute housing developers who they claim have failed to protect a tree on their site.
Cllr Rod Hooper said he was concerned about the fate of the tree on the Todenham Road site, which has a preservation order on it.
"Since then the builders have completely ignored the tree preservation order and have not protected that tree. Now it's damaged and they are seeking to remove it," said Cllr Hooper.
"I think we should ask the district council to prosecute.
"If they just let them plant another tree in another place they are letting them get away with it," he added.
Fellow town councillors supported Cllr Hooper at their meeting on Monday.
"It's making a mockery of it," said Cllr Josie Burford-Lane.
