A HEREFORD schoolboy has responded to calls for new toys for a children's ward by selling his iPhone.

The children's ward at Hereford County Hospital sent out a plea on social media that it needed new toys, and Harvey Fingh took it on himself to help.

After celebrating his 11th birthday on October 26 and getting a new phone, Harvey then sold his old iPhone 6S for £70 to spend on toys.

When he told his mother, Tess Morris, about what he wanted to do, she said it brought a tear to her eye.

"We went to town today, we spent £70 and brought toys for the children's ward at the county hospital," Ms Morris, 28, said.

"He's done this all on his own accord. After he opened up his new phone yesterday he turned around and told me, which brought me to a tear, and I've helped him complete his goal.

"We dropped the toys off to a lady called Sarah and a lady called Harriett who are the play specialists at the county hospital.

"We also met a little boy and it was lovely to meet the people going there.

"Harvey is really happy and proud of himself."

Harvey, who goes to St Martin's Primary School in Hinton, and his mother were told when at the county hospital the play specialist Sarah has never known an 11-year-old do something like this during the 14 years she has worked there.

He brought books, games, pens, colouring books, puzzles, toys and Christmas stencils for the children.

"I am very proud of him, he's done absolutely amazingly," Ms Morris added.
