A Bromsgrove jewellery shop has launched a new jewellery collection and sales of the silver pendants will help benefit The North Worcestershire Basement Project.
When Åsa Cupitt had to temporarily close her Bromsgrove jewellery shop in March, due to the pandemic lockdown, she took to social media to run a number of interactive competitions to maintain engagement with her
customers and the local community.
Her ‘Design a Pendant’ competition, which asked people to use their imagination and creative skills to design a silver pendant, attracted entries from budding designers across the town and beyond. Five designs, shortlisted by the shop, were then posted on Facebook and the public were invited to vote for their preference with three winning places available. This led to an exciting tie-breaker to determine the final of the three winners.
The designs went into production in August, at Cupitt’s onsite workshop – where Goldsmith Keith Norton transformed the sketches into stunning items of 925 silver jewellery.
The winners each received a £100 gift voucher to spend at Cupitt Jeweller and their pendants are now being sold in the shop under the brand ‘The People’s Choice’.
Emma Williams, an emergency services worker from Aston Fields, was one of the winners with her ‘leaf’ pendant. She said: “I was very surprised to win considering the quality of all the entrants. It was a high point for me in what has been such a dismal year.”
Cupitt Jeweller will be donating £5 from the sale of each pendant to The North Worcestershire Basement Project, which helps young people up to age 25 who are homeless or facing homelessness.
Kelly Turner, community fundraiser for The Basement Project, said: “Cupitt Jeweller raised money for us last year when Åsa and her team took part in the Cheltenham Devil Mud Run. We are delighted that they are continuing to support us this year.”
