A TEENAGER from Worcester has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm after a shooting in Coventry.

Pray Maphosa, from Hamilton Road in Worcester, is accused of shooting a fellow 18-year-old with a shotgun ‘at close range’ in Pinley Fields, Stoke Aldermoor, Coventry at around 10.30pm on September 2.

The victim was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital where he required ‘extensive surgery’.

West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the scene at 10.33pm and sent an ambulance, two paramedic officers and the critical care car from the air ambulance service.

A spokeswoman for the service said: “One man was given treatment on scene for an injury before being taken to hospital for further checks.”

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: “We’ve charged a man over a shooting in Coventry earlier this month that left a teenager with serious arm injuries.

“Pray Maphosa is accused of opening fire at the 18-year-old with a shotgun at close range in Pinley Fields, Coventry, on the evening of 2 September.

“The victim has needed extensive surgery to his arm and remains in hospital.

“Our officers arrested Maphosa, from Hamilton Road, Worcester, on Friday (September 11) and the following day charged him with attempted murder and firearm possession.

“The 18-year-old appeared at Coventry Magistrates Court on Saturday (September 12) and was remanded into prison ahead of a crown court appearance on 15 October.”
