THE number of girls playing cricket in Herefordshire is rising and an under-13 side recently launched.

Brockhampton Belles played their first ever match, taking on Ledbury under-13 boy's side recently.

After being put into bat the Belles made a strong start, looking confident at the crease and steadily building a solid score.

After 20 overs the Belles scored a respectable 100.

After a quick change over, the Belles took to the field with gusto.

With precise bowling and tight fielding, they kept Ledbury’s scoring at bay, despite some strong batting performances.

Taking three wickets during the 20 overs, the Belles held Ledbury to 82 runs.

Brockhampton are incredibly proud to be the only cricket club in Herefordshire to have a junior girls team which already feeds young players into the Brockhampton Ladies team.

The number of girls joining the club has rapidly increased over the years and the club are delighted to have been able to enter an all girl's team into the county’s friendlies this summer.

Herefordshire Girls' under-13s shared the spoils against Gloucestershire in two 20-over matches last weekend.

In the first game chasing a target of 110-6 Herefordshire finished on 69-8 with Chloe Williams hitting 25.

With the ball Georgina Williams and Gabbi Ferreira both took two wickets

In the second match Herefordshire girls came fighting back and won the tie.

Herefordshire posted a much improved 105-3 with their opponents finishing on 91-7.

Evie Richards scored 37 runs in her first county cricket appearance while Williams took four wickets.

Rising talent Amy Maund, of Burghilll, Tillington & Weobley recently made her second team debut against Bredon seconds taking 2-21 off five overs.

Maund, aged 16, also recently won a recent ECB #DesignOurShirt competition.
Her entry took inspiration from the incredible work of the NHS and key workers during the pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and the heroic efforts of the England Men’s team when winning the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup last year.
Maund weaved in her own geometric design to make a truly unique shirt.

Her winning design is being produced as a one off by official kit suppliers, New Balance.

Last season, Maund played for Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s under-17 team.

"The competition gave me an opportunity to reflect on everything that has happened and why I love cricket and I hope you can see that in my design," said Maund.

"It’s such an amazing sport and one that my whole family enjoys playing together!”
