ILLUMINATIONS of red will shine on a prominent building tonight to shed light on the suffering UK entertainments industry.

South Hill Park in Bracknell has announced they will be taking part in #LightItInRed tonight (Monday, July 6) to highlight the lack of support the government has given to theatres and art centres following the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes after the local arts centre launched an urgent fundraising appeal in June £500,000 to save the arts centre.

So far, the campaign has had backing from Hollywood actor and producer Kenneth Branagh.

The campaign has reached a massive £45,559 but still has a long way to go.

South Hill Park said it still continues to receive a grant from Bracknell Forest Borough and Town Councils and it is part of the governement's job retention scheme but it has lost 86 per cent of its income when the Covid-19 outbreak began in March.

The #LightItInRed campaign was inspired by Germany's #NightofLight which saw over 9,000 buildings, landmarks, houses and offices illuminated in red to raise awareness.

This UK campaign has a target to get 1,000 buildings and monuments lit up.

Currently, South Hill Park is waiting to hear from the government when and how its theatre venue can open.

Residents can show their support for South Hill Park and other arts venues by lighting up your home in red.
