WORK is progressing on a multi-million pound development at Taunton Station.

The project has been underway for months and includes a new multi-storey car park; a new ticket office; extra bike spaces; and an improved bus and taxi interchange.

The scheme involves relocating the main entrance from the north to the south side of the station.

Steel work is in place for the ticket office, while ground work for the car park is going well.

The completion date for the station upgrade had been set for later this year.

During work on the new car park, the site has been fenced off and a temporary facility has been operating near the former allotments on the other side.

The taxi rank, previously on the south, is currently located to the north of the station for safety reasons.

Great Western Railway is working with Somerset West and Taunton Council and the Heart of South West Local Enterprise Partnership to deliver the scheme, designed to help support the town’s economic development plans.

It will also offer easier access to Taunton town centre and the proposed Firepool development.
