TWENTY four new deaths have been reported by hospitals across the North-East and North Yorkshire as the UK sees its biggest 'day-on-day' rise.

This afternoon (Wednesday, April 1), NHS England released the latest trusts that have reported new COVID-19 deaths.

Since figures were last reported 24 hours ago, a further 563 across the UK have died after testing positive for the virus.

An NHS England spokesperson said: "Patients were aged between 13 and 99 years old. 

"Twenty of the 486 patients - aged between 13 and 93 years old - had no known underlying health condition. Their families have been informed."

The new reported deaths across the region range from March 20 to March 31.

The patients died at hospitals run by the following trusts:

  • County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust - 4
  • Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust - 2
  • Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - 2
  • South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 4
  • South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust - 6
  • Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 3
  • York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 3
