THIS year’s Wacky Races has been cancelled due to the bank holiday change.

The Tetbury Lions annual Soapbox Derby draws thousands of spectators and many competitors, all keen to be a part of this wonderfully, unique event.

Participants race down the hill in all manner of creative carts whilst face painting, bouncy castles and magicians make the day fun for families, all whilst raising money for charity.

Usually held on Bank Holiday Monday: May 4, however the holiday has been changed to Friday, May 8 this year, to allow the nation to celebrate the day Europe triumphed over Nazi Germany.

In order to allow the residents to take part in these important celebrations Tetbury will be holding their own major VE Celebration.

The scale of the celebration means that significant amounts of the area which the races need will be occupied.

Most significantly of the which is the holding area for competitors, and necessary road closures preventing entry to the public and participants.

It has been confirmed that the races will return in 2021.
