Gloucestershire County Council highways officers need to close a busy B-road over Cleeve Hill during February to fix a collapsed drain.

Highways engineers have been investigating issues on the B4632 between Lye Lane and Gamble Lane on Cleeve Hill, near Winchcombe, and the road has been under temporary traffic lights since September 2019.

The section of road will be completely closed from 9.30am on Monday, February 3, until Friday, February 28, to fix the collapsed drain system and reinstate the road surface as a matter of urgency.

Crews will be making deep excavations so the road can not be reopened to traffic until work is complete.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Our investigations have found the poor condition of this stretch of road has been caused by a collapsed drain system which we must fix.

"I appreciate this urgent closure is inconvenient for both commuters and local residents however our crews will be working hard to get this road repaired as quickly as possible.”

Residents and businesses within the closure area will have access to their properties and a letter with more details about the work will be delivered this week.

An official diversion route, suitable for all vehicles that normally use the closed road, will be signposted. Road users should use the signposted diversion to avoid congestion on local lanes.

THE DIVERSION

Follow the B4632 to Winchcombe, in Winchcombe take the B4078 to Toddington. In Toddington take the B4077 and continue on the road to the Toddington roundabout.

At the roundabout take the A435 towards Bishops Cleeve and follow the road all the way to the Racecourse roundabout. At the Racecourse roundabout take the B4075 towards Prestbury. Drive through the village and at the roundabout take the first exit onto B4632. The diversion is the same in reverse.
