CITY boss Ashley Vincent will face some pleasurable pain if Marco Adaggio and Jamie Smith shake off illness in time for tomorrow’s trip to Coventry United (Saturday, 3pm).

The duo missed Tuesday’s Midland Football League (MFL) Cup victory at Tividale have been downed by a persistent bug in the City camp.

But with midfielders Chris Withington and Luke Rowe back from work commitments and suspension respectively, Adaggio and Smith could give Vincent a full squad to select from bar long-term lay offs.

And with many of those seeking regular starts impressing in midweek, the City gaffer seems set for a selection headache on the back of a five-match unbeaten run and 10 wins and three draws out of the past 15 ahead of the MFL Premier Division outing.

“They both had a virus, the one that has been in our camp since before Christmas,” said Vincent.

“Everyone seems to have had it at different stages so they couldn’t make Tuesday and we will make sure they’re okay before factoring them in for this one.

“Rowey is back from suspension so if Marco and Jamie feel right we will have 19 players to choose from.

“You can only take 16 so inevitably there will be some disappointed lads but I will need them all between now and the end of the season.

“We have cup competitions and a lot of league games to fit in so everyone has to be right when called upon and do what the lads did at Tividale, put on performances and keep knocking on the door.

“We have won some games and the atmosphere in the dressing room is buzzing at the moment, all the lads want to be a part of it.

“That leads to everyone giving everything out on the pitch, the lads always give their best but when you have that bounce you find that extra edge.

“It makes the job of picking a side, even the rest of the 16, very difficult for me, I have to leave three lads disappointed but that’s the job.

“I rotate things when I feel it is right but ultimately I have always been the same, the best players will play and it is about us winning.”

And Vincent confirmed Tuesday’s starters had given him food for thought.

“They absolutely did,” he added.

“I thought Josh Willis was fantastic and we have thrown down the gauntlet to Jordan Harrison over the past couple of weeks as well.

“He has scored a lot of goals this season and while we haven’t been disappointed by his performances, we know he has a lot more energy and aggression in the tank which he showed on Tuesday.

“Connor Mooney was great and Joel Caines came in and did well, too.”
