THERE'S been a knockout triumph for a Vale of Clwyd boxer.

Rhyl's Mark Sweetman, who trains at Denbigh Boxing Club, had a great win over Manchester's experienced John Spencer during a recent show at the Britannia Hotel, Stockport.

Following two close losses in the last two months, Sweetman really trained hard and lost weight.

This made him able to be at his best and not have to give away weight and fight bigger opponents.

John Spencer is a fit tough MMA / boxer who fights regularly, but he had no answer to Sweetman's speed and punching power on the night.

A close first round saw Sweetman take a good right hand from Spencer.

However, this spurred the Vale of Clwyd boxer on to attack the body of his opponent and a short left hook put Spencer down towards the end of the round.

Turning to the second round and it only took one more hook to the body to send Spencer to the canvas.

He just could not recover and the contest was waved off with Spencer still unable to rise.

Sweetman has great ability and a terrific temperament for boxing, but he has neglected his training in the past.

He is now dedicated, as you have to be for this tough sport, and it will take a good man to beat him.

There's to be no rest for Sweetman, who has another contest arranged in Deeside in the second week of December.
