MANAGER Ashley Vincent believes Worcester City have “all the ingredients” to go “deep” in this season’s Emirates FA Cup.

City booked their place in the preliminary round and scooped £2,250 in prize money after running out 4-1 winners against Stone Old Alleynians.

Midland League Premier Division leaders Heather St John’s will now play host to Worcester on Saturday (12.30pm).

And with £2,890 up for grabs for the winners as well as a spot in the first qualifying round Vincent is keen to keep City’s cup quest going.

“The FA Cup is the one competition where every team down the ladder has the same objective and that is to go as far as possible,” Vincent said.

“We are no different. We feel we are good enough to go deep in the competition. I definitely think we have all the ingredients to do so.

“It’s going to be tough on Saturday but we are looking forward to the challenge.

“Cup games are 50-50 — it doesn’t matter who you play against at what level you can catch teams cold that are higher than you.”

Three wins from their first four games have seen Heather St John’s rise to the top of the league with Kieron Clarke bagging five goals and Malachi Farquharson netting four.

Worcester slipped to 12th after losing 4-0 at Long Eaton United on Tuesday night but Vincent insisted his side would quickly put that poor showing to bed.

“Even though Heather St John’s have started well they will raise their game 10 to 15 per cent as they are facing Worcester City and it is the FA Cup,” Vincent said.

“But I am not interested in what everyone else is doing.

“I am comfortable and confident in my squad. If we turn up and play the way we can do we will be more than a match for anyone.”

Centre-half Joe Hawkins could make his City debut after signing from Cradley Town earlier this week.

Vincent said he was also thrilled to have ex-Bromsgrove Sporting skipper and defender Craig Jones back available after returning from his holiday.

Jones played the full 90 minutes of City’s heavy defeat at Long Eaton.

“It’s fantastic to have Craig back,” Vincent said.

“For the first three weeks of the season I have missed two of my captains for a number of games.

“But very shorty that’s going to settle down and I’ll have a full complement of what we see as our big, strong leaders.

“The boys have done absolutely fantastically in his absence but having Craig back makes us a stronger unit.

“I will analyse Tuesday night’s performance but it will be put to bed and we will be back on the bike. All I am asking for is a positive performance.”
