Bangor circus parade - Pictures: Kerry Roberts

DARING acrobats tumbled their way through the city streets to a vibrant Samba beat during a colourful circus procession in Bangor.

The stunning spectacle brought shoppers and pedestrians to a halt on Thursday lunchtime.

The festivities were to promote Pontio's Gwledd Syrcus - Circus Feast programme of entertainment which runs from now all the way until July 27.

The parade featured skilled performers from Pontio's headline act Circus Abyssinia, presenting their show Ethiopian Dreams.

Bangor school children also joined in the fun waving bright circus banners they had created.

The youngsters from Y Faenol, Glancegin, Glanadda and Hirael schools had designed artwork on the theme of ‘The World at our Feet.’

The pupils had worked with artist Nerys Jones creating screenprints using stencils from tradition Ethiopian and Welsh ‘brethyn’ patterns.

They had also prepared for the procession by learning Samba moves with dancer Angharad Harrop and heard about African cultures from members of Gwynedd Africa.

The procession started at 1pm and Band Jazz Tryfan provided the lively music, and there were stilt-walkers dressed as quarry men.
