POLICE had to gather up nearly three miles worth of orange twine from the roadside.
The rope was found along the A27, and caused delays for motorists.
There were concerns for the safety of motorcyclists and drivers as it extended from Firle to Lewes.
Police Sergeant Richard Hobbs posted on Twitter about the incident after finding himself on the right side of the thin orange line.
He said: “No two days are the same in this job.
“With the help of colleagues we recovered 3 miles worth of orange twine that was stretched out along the A27 between Firle and Lewes.
“Sorry for the delays but no one wants this caught up in their wheels, especially on a motorbike.”
Images from Twitter showed the twine in the back of the police vehicle.
PS Hobbs said it took more than two hour hours to reel in the twine on the westbound carriageway.
