CHIPPING Norton residents are set to have their say on plans to build more than 1,000 new homes and a new school.

The West Oxfordshire Local Plan allocated land on the East Chipping Norton Strategic Development Area for strategic development to include 1,200 homes, the new primary school as well as associated facilities and five hectares of business land.

A consultation has launched on the proposals, with responses to be considered by West Oxfordshire District Council.

And a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) is being prepared to ensure that development of the site is brought forward in a comprehensive and coordinated manner.

Councillor Jeff Haine, cabinet member for strategic housing and development, said: “These proposals are extremely important for the future development of the town and we really want residents to express their views and influence the decisions that have to be made.

“I would encourage as many people as possible to participate in the consultation.”

The council has produced an initial ‘issues’ consultation paper which is intended to stimulate early debate and discussion about the key priorities to be addressed through the SPD.

All responses received will be taken into account by the council in preparing the draft SPD for further consultation in early summer 2019.

As part of the consultation process the authority is holding two public exhibitions.

Council officers will be at the events to discuss any issues raised by those in attendance.

The first meeting will take place between 2pm and 8pm on Wednesday, February 6, at Glyme Hall in Burford Road

The second will be held at Chipping Norton Town Hall in The Guildhall on Friday, February 25, takes place between 2pm to 8pm.

Alternatively, unable to make the events, can email or write to Planning Policy, West Oxfordshire District Council, New Yatt Rd, Witney OX28 1PB, to take part in the consultation.

The deadline for consultation responses is Friday, March 8.
