THE main route out of Moreton is being repaired after residents complained about the "shameful" state of the road.

The A429 route between the Todenham junction and the Ashton Magna junction will be resurfaced with residents angry about the number of potholes here.

Andrew Wyss said: "When I took up cycling again,I became aware of just how hazardous the A429 between Moreton and Stow-on-the Wold was for cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists in particular.

"An example on some of the photos show repairs where middle section is filled in and decay still evident on both ends of pothole.

"One of the worst patches of potholes appeared on A429 road out of Moreton towards Stratford upon Avon, just past the Todenham Road turning- a shameful piece of workmanship in my opinion.

"I was informed by person I spoke to from Gloucestershire highways department late year that these roads are checked every month which I found astonishing.

"Someone needs to get out of a vehicle to see how bad the roads are especially where sides of the highway have decayed away from the verge by about 8ins or more for long stretches on A429.

Crews will be resurfacing the road between 7pm and 7am from Monday June 25 until Monday July 16, excluding weekends. A full road closure will be in place throughout the works.

The road will still be open during peak times. Crews will complete vital resurfacing along the 25,406 square metres stretch of road with 4050 tonnes of material.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: “We have scheduled this route for resurfacing as part of the council’s ongoing £150 million investment. These essential improvements will create a smooth and pothole free journey for all road users and by doing it overnight we’ll minimise the disruption.”

Cllr Lynden Stowe, county councillor for Campden-Vale, said: “This is a busy main route out of Moreton-in-Marsh, so I’m delighted that the road will benefit from a complete refresh. I would like to thank road users for their patience while the work is carried out.”

For the diversion route, follow the A429 at Fosse Way to the roundabout. At the roundabout take the third exit and continue along the A3400 all the way to Chipping Norton.

In approach to Chipping Norton, at the roundabout take the first exit to Banbury Road. Continue along the road to the double roundabout then take the A44 towards Moreton-in-Marsh. At the roundabout with the A429 take the second exit. The route is the same in reverse.
