A LUDLOW man has plenty to celebrate after becoming the best in the world at his chosen sport.

Patrick Crump, aged 43, carried off the Masters title at the Minibike World Championships at Little Baldon near Doncaster in a three-day competition over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The motocross event attracted competitors from all over the world.

"There were riders from the USA, Belgium, Holland, France, Portugal and Denmark as well as other countries," said Patrick's father Michael Crump who attended the event to support his son.

"There were five races on the Saturday and Sunday. Patrick won all three of the races on the Saturday and then he was second and third respectively in the two on the Sunday which gave him the overall title."

Ludlow born-and-bred Patrick Crump, a self-employed woodburner engineer, has been riding motorcycles since the age of six.

"He is vastly experienced at his sport and has ridden for Great Britain in the past," said Michael Crump. "These are 160cc bikes but are very powerful and they use the same track as the bigger bikes. To win a world title is the culmination of a dream."
