WHEN is a record not a record – when golfers have rally cars to contend with!

Dave Fish shot a 64 as part of Ted Lloyd’s President’s Day celebrations at Ludlow Golf Club – a round that equalled the course record.

But his exploits won’t officially count because the first hole was shortened by some 200 yards due to the Woodpecker Rally taking up space to the right of the hole.

That said, it was still a blemish-free card for the two handicapper who hit 12 pars and six birdies for a winning 44 points. He was six shots ahead of Rob Smith with Will Evans and Mark Giles in third and fourth place on 36 points.

Andy Ferriday’s 34 points secured the best gross prize and Dave Nicholas topped the seniors prize list with 35 points, beating Gerald Acton on the back nine. Top lady on the day was Jayne Smith whose score of 33 points just edged out Margaret Harris on 32 points while Jonathan Price was top junior with 36 points, six clear of his nearest rival Nathan Herdsfield.

And there were celebrations from Mike Hughes who recorded a hole in one on the 13th.

Fred Stevens finished four clear to win the Seniors Stableford Roll-Up with 44 points. Dave Dyke was runner-up with Andrew Macwhirter third.

On Sunday, Ludlow GC will stage its popular challenge event when members have the chance to take on the club captain and professional. There will be a prize for the winning pair and anyone bettering the captain/professional score will win back their entry fee.

And the popular Winter Opens start again in November. The first of the monthly betterball events takes place on Thursday, November 30 with further rounds pencilled in for December 21, January 25 and February 22. Call the club shop on 01584 856366 to reserve a place.
