THE sound of jazz saxophone rung out across Chipping Norton as visitors flocked to the 16th Chippy Jazz and Music event.
Visitors enjoyed 11 different sets of performers in eight venues.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Chipping Norton, the event raised more than £3,500 for Lawrence Home Nursing, SpecialEffect, and End Polio Now.
Highlights included the gypsy jazz of Fiddlebop the traditional sound from the Eric Stevens Jazz Band and Dickie White’s Jazz Allstars who wowed visitors with ‘music on the move’ as the Walking Band in Market Place.
‘Spats’ Langham and his Hot Fingers group played in the Chequers and there was also a jazz improvisation masterclass by jazz saxophonist Sue Greenaway.
The Town Hall was filled with music from the six youth band groups which included the Reading Big Jazz Band and the acclaimed Frank Jazz.
Free gigs continued throughout the evening, with the main event, the concert in the town hall.
Simon Hamilton, publicity officer for Chippy Jazz, said: “The day has always had the threefold aim of bringing jazz to northern Oxfordshire, to put Chipping Norton on the map for more than just the Chipping Norton set and to raise money for charity.
