ARMISTICE day fell on Remembrance Sunday this year, and what a day to remember.
It was a great honour to us all at “Chippy” Royal British Legion to see all the support we received for this annual event.
We were joined (I think) by all the youth organisation from the town with both branches of our cadet forces marching and the RBL Bodicote band doing us proud in leading the parade.
Chipping Norton St Mary’s church was filled to the brim and the collection for the Poppy Fund there raised more than £900.
Sadly our Vicar, Stephen Weston, was holding his last Remembrance service before moving to a new parish in Ottery St Mary in sunny Devon this Christmas.
Thank you Stephen and Cathy for a wonderful 26 years of service to the community.
Our thanks must go to all who helped made Remembrance Day a special and moving event.
Special thanks go to our local police who did a great job and to the civilian workers who put out cones, etc, and who together ensured the safety of our parade.
I would also like to thank Mr David Astor, who represented Her Majesty The Queen, and to our Mayor and all those who joined us at the town hall afterwards.
NEVILLE EDWARDS,
President Chipping Norton Royal British Legion
