FOR those of who didn’t make it to the south of France this year, the Cans film festival in Stratford provides an interesting alternative.

The Climate Action Network Stratford event is the town’s first climate change film festival and will be held in association with Oxfam.

On four nights, spread over two weeks from Tuesday, November 25, to Thursday, December 4, this cinematic extravaganza aims to encourage discussion and action on man made climate change.

All four films are free to watch and begin at 7pm on each night.

Each will be followed by discussions on the issues raised. Sisters on the Planet is on Tuesday, November 25 at the Stratford Oxfam branch on Wood Street and shows what effects climate change is having on women.

On Thursday, November 27, Power of Community – How Cuba Survived Peak Oil is screened at Stratford College.

Pura Vida? at Stratford College on Monday, December 1, exposes the effects chemicals used on Costa Rica’s plantations have on communities.

Also at the college, on Thursday, December 4, The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream explores the American way of life and its prospects.
