Blockley Court, Blockley, Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire. GL56 9BP

£375,000

Guide price

  • Bedrooms: 5
Dating from the late Georgian period, and forming the cornerstone of one of Blockley's six former mills, this semi-detached, four storey, Grade II Listed, five bedroom village residence was formerly the mill owner's house for Westmacott Mill, and is now prime for redevelopment and will be of certain interest to those looking for a development project to manifest the innate character and charm of a period home.

Some of the most interesting period features are the many sash windows with original window shutters, the original carved timber banister and iron balustrade, there are eight predominantly original Georgian fireplaces in varying styles, flag stone floors in the basement, original wooden floorboards, cornices, reeded architraves, and all complimented by traditional 9ft high Georgian ceilings.

Located only a few yards from the gently cascading Blockley Brook, which runs below the adjacent property, South View, and into the mill stream to the rear, this was also the location of the first mill in Blockley, built in 1688, so the site has important historic links with the silk industry which led to the growth of Blockley. Superb views can be enjoyed from the top two floors over the surrounding countryside. The property's front garden abuts the Brook itself, creating a particularly tranquil environment and indeed many walks can be enjoyed from the property in the surrounding countryside.

Blockley Court is located at the end of Mill View, close to the village green in the centre of Blockley, one of the most iconic of Cotswold villages mid-way between the cafe society of Chipping Campden and the more traditional market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, where there are also rail links to London Paddington.

The village has its own primary school, village shop and tea rooms, two public houses, one also being a hotel.
