A POPULAR hair salon in the city centre is celebrating six decades in Worcester.

Wicked Hair, in High Street, has organised a variety of activities and prize giveaways to celebrate reaching 60 years.

Wicked Hair was originally started by 1958 by Jon Wurmli, with his son Hans-Peter now owning it.

Hans-Peter Wurmli said: “Hairdressing salons were really different then, being cubicles within the salon.

“When my father opened the salon it was one of the first open plan salons, and being a foreign hairdresser was a big appeal to clients, looking for new hairstyles.

“My father soon had to start employing hairstylists and bought a few over from Switzerland, my father’s homeland.

"The salon was first named Jon Continental and has been through numerous name changes to its current Wicked Hair.”

Hans-Peter Wurmli added: “We have continued to grow our team and train our people within the salon, focusing on good service and hairstyles you can manage yourself at home.

“Five years ago when we rebranded we chose to go down a warehouse feel to the salon, using raw steel and concrete on the shelving units and styling stations, we like to be different and our clients do as well.”

He said to celebrate reaching the milestone of 60 years the salon served champagne and other drinks, and customers enjoyed homemade cupcakes.

There was also the chance to use selfie props in clients photos, with clients also given some free samples and entered into a free raffle prize drawer with a chance to win one of seven great prizes one of those being a pair of GHD’s.
