ANYONE over the age of 18 is welcome to join in with touch rugby at Pershore.

Men and women are being offered six free open training sessions at the club at Mill Lane, Wyre Piddle, throughout March. Wychavon District Council’s Get Wychavon Active programme, funded by the National Lottery and Sport England, has linked up with Pershore to encourage adults to get involved in sport.

Run by qualified coaches, the sessions will be held for an hour-and-a-half every Wednesday starting at 7.30pm and Sunday from 10am.

No experience is necessary and anyone wanting to register is asked to email fizz.bewley500@btinternet.com or come along to the sessions.

Fizz Bewley, who heads up the club’s section, said: “There has been such a lot of interest in touch rugby ever since we set up our women’s group and now we have as many men training as women. Some are retired contact players but others have never played rugby before. And because it is a non-contact sport mixed sessions work really well.

“Anyone can play whatever their age. It’s a great way to get fit and if you love running about outdoors and having a lot of fun too touch rugby is just perfect.”

There is the chance to play in mixed tournaments at local O2 Touch Rugby centres and women can join Pershore’s Midlands League team who compete from March until November.
