Rock and Oliver in fine pairs triumph

EVESHAM held their annual men’s invitation day with a better ball medal pairs competition.
Anthony Rock and Paul Oliver (Broadway) won with a nett 67 in windy conditions.
Second was Bill Dobie and Martin Wilkinson (The Vale) with 70, beating Evesham’s Colin Cleary and Frank Meadows (Broadway) on countback.
The best gross score was by Worcester’s Lea Hawkes and Graham Hubbard with 73.
The nearest-the-pin prizes went to Hawkes (sixth) and Brian Coleman (The Worcestershire, 16th), while longest drives were by Frank Meadows (Broadway, eighth) and John Jones (14th).
The Vale’s Jerry Cain and Anthony Perks managed birdies on the par three holes.
Evesham hold their men’s open on August 4 and entry forms are available from eveshamgolfclub.co.uk The ladies, with handicaps lower than 29, competed for the Craycombe Trophy with Melanie Evans (35 points) ahead of Jenny Marston (33).
Those with handicap 29 and above challenged for the Avon Cup which went to Dee Machin (34) with Sandra Langmead (31) second.
In the medal, the silver division winner was Ruth Masters with nett 74, followed by Joan Hunt (79).
Bronze ‘A’ winner Gill Smith scored 75 with Val Lemon (81) second, while the ‘B’ honours went to Lesley Kewley (79) ahead of Sheelagh Crane (84). Angela Fletcher won the nine-hole qualifier with 17 points.
