COTSWOLD star Steve Edwards extended his world record tally of marathons in under three hour 30 minutes to a new landmark total of 750.

The 55-year-old ran the Enigma Word Up contest in Milton Keynes in 3.21.53 for first veteran over 55 and third overall.

He did his 749th sub-3.30 marathon at Dorney Lake three days earlier in 3.26.27 for second in his age group and 11th overall.

North Cotswold Tri and Run's Edwards broke the world record in November 2012 in Milton Keynes as the first person to run 500 sub-3.30 official marathon races.

The lifetime ambition took him 24 years to achieve.

But since then 250 have been run in just 292 weeks and the last 100 in only 108.  Edwards said: “I honestly can’t believe I’ve been able to do this.

"I thought my joints would be knackered getting to the 500 and I’d be cutting right back but surprisingly I didn’t feel too bad so decided to carry on for a bit longer.

"I never for once imagined another 250 would be possible.

"It’s quite a thing to know you’re the only person on the planet to have achieved something like this but for me the greater reward has come from helping to inspire others and to raise money for local charities like Kate’s Home Nursing.

"I also love representing my club NCTR. As chairman I’m very proud of everyone in our club.”

Edwards has done 827 official marathons and continues to chase a new world record for running 1,000 in the fastest average finish time.

His average is 3.18.28 and he aims to keep it under 3.20.

Meanwhile, in the Humph’s Hilly half marathon the club's Kate Krzywiec won her veteran over 40 age category and was second overall in 1.30.56.

Nikki Hitchcock was fourth veteran over 45 in 1.53.41 and Tom Williams did 1.40.51 for seventh senior man and 36th overall.

Viv D’Alton was fourth veteran over 40 and 13th woman at the Forest of Dean Sprint Triathlon in 1.41.43.
