COTSWOLD Express Tim Nobes came out on top in the 2018 British Masters Grasstrack Qualifier in Kent.
Nobes won his first two heats in Frittenden in style and came off in the third but quickly remounted to earn an important sixth place.
His last heat saw him take on undefeated Eastbourne speedway star Mark Baseby.
They were at the head of the field and with no need to press too hard Nobes settled for second to gain enough points to make the Masters final later in the year.
After the heats it was all about the day’s title as Nobes and Baseby won their semis to set up another meeting in the final.
A re-run was needed after leader Baseby ended up in the dirt following an error and was disqualified.
Nobes took charge from the off and held on for the four laps to win from young Devon ace Henry Atkins with Yorkshireman Andrew Whittaker third.
On July 8, Nobes hopes to regain The Master of Midshires title he last won in 2009.
