OVERBURY beat Hewell convincingly 21-10 at home in the men's county triples first round.
The score was 4-4 after five ends but Overbury's Mike Mace, Neil Williams and Dan Mason won the next seven to lead 15-4 with six remaining.
Mason’s triple managed the rest of the match effectively, denying Hewell opportunities to get back into the game to earn a second round match at Vines Park in Droitwich.
In the Midland Counties League, Overbury’s Neil Williams and Dan Mason were selected to represent Worcestershire against Nottinghamshire.
Hopes were high for an unbeaten away team but in a close encounter on a difficult Newark green Notts took a narrow nine-shot victory with Worcestershire winning two rinks and drawing one.
Williams was in the best county rink, winning by nine shots, and said: “It’s always a pleasure to pull on the county shirt.”
