DANNY Norman and Emily Grove shared the plaudits at Evesham and District Table Tennis Association's junior championships.

The region's youngsters fought it out in novice, junior and cadet categories at St. Egwin’s Middle School, Evesham on Sunday, May 13.

Norman's powerful forehand drive was enough to see off Grove 3-0 (11-8, 11-1, 11-5) for the Novice Singles crown which saw the rivals battle through a record field of 21 competitors.

However, a six-point swing in each game and some backspin float serves was enough for Grove to turn the tables 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-4) and win the Novice Handicap.

Abi Ingles trumped surprise finalist Sophie Arrandale 3-1 (11-9, 11-13, 11-9, 11-7) to claim the Cadet Girls' championship. Arrandale had produced the upset of the day by outplaying Anna Cole to win the second semi-final 3-1 (8-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-7).

Alex Emms overcame Littleton team-mate Luke Fisher 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-4) to take top billing in the Cadet Boys' championship but Fisher still claimed some glory.

Teaming up with Theo Rodgers, Fisher had the last laugh over Emms and Bella Reid 3-1 (13-15, 11-7, 12-10, 11-8) in the Junior Drawn Doubles final.
