MOHAMMED Fahim Mann's true captain's performance could not prevent Evesham's 68-run setback at home to Bewdley on Saturday.

The skipper set the example with six wickets and 48 runs but the visitors simply had too much in the Worcestershire League Division One clash at Albert Road.

Strong scores from Nick Wilkinson (28), Ash Fearnall (42), Rob Combes (40) and Gareth Lewis (42) saw Bewdley hit 212 for nine from 50 overs in spite of Fahim Mann's (6-54) efficiency in tidying up the tail.

Ali Shan (34) and Fahim Mann did all they could to provide resistance but with support lacking, Martyn Carr (4-51) and Jack Mills (4-37) made hay to limit the response to 144 all out inside 37 overs.

Bredon suffered a first defeat of the season in Division Two, falling short by 63 runs at high-flying Bromyard.

It started well for visitors before Zahid Saeed (118) settled into a 57-run partnership with Josh Van Rensburg (31) for the third wicket.

The hosts finished on 237 for five with hope provided by Charlie McVicker (44) and Jamie Munro (41) in response.

But Van Rensburg (5-33) made light work of the top end before Will Yarnold (4-61) finished off the job to see off Kevin Wilkins's men for 174 all out inside 38 overs.

Clive Fenney's 88 helped Bredon's seconds (213-7) to a winning draw with their Bromyard (186-9) counterparts.

On Saturday, Evesham travel to Colwall while Bredon entertain Droitwich Spa (both 1pm).
