TABLE TENNIS: Bredon Hill Academy’s under-13 girls finished fourth in the Team Table Tennis National Finals in Hinckley on Saturday.

Despite wins from Beth Pye, Rebecca Arrandale and Emily Grove, Bredon lost 5-3 to The Priory Ruskin Academy from Grantham ahead of a tough test against Wade Deacon High School, Widnes, who featured two of the nation’s top 20 players.

Pye, Grove and Rebecca Arrandale each bagged another win apiece but it was to no avail in a 5-3 setback that featured close, enthralling encounters.

A 4-4 draw with Sacred Heart Catholic School, Southwark, followed with Sophie Arrandale among the winners. Bredon missed out on third place to Sacred Heart 17-13 on count back of games won.

ANGLING: Mark Sparrow managed 42.12.0 of carp catching mainly off the top with bread to win Evesham WMC’s latest winter league match.

Vic Woods had a net of carp weighing 34.2.0 using maggot and bread, while Bryan Townley fished shallow with the maggot for 22.3.0.

The section winners were Stuart Robinson (16.8.0) and Mick Reeve (10.0.0).

HOCKEY: Evesham & Badsey battled to a 1-1 draw with Gloucester IX on Saturday.

Naomi Marsden put the hosts in front before half-time following good work and an equally-impressive pass from Laura Moore.

It was an open contest in which Evesham & Badsey’s Lucy Trevorrow earned player of the match for a series of eye-catching saves.

Trevorrow, however, could not keep out the second-half leveller that resulted in a share of the spoils.

TABLE TENNIS: Littleton Dolphins have finally seen their 100 per cent record ended in Evesham & District Basepoint Division Two.

Dolphins drew 5-5 with Littleton Bears whose player of the match Paul Bruner claimed three victories. Karen Chu won two for Dolphins.

Second-placed Littleton Cobras were also held 5-5 in their match against Bengeworth Pandas.

Alex Emms won three for Cobras but John Buxton and Margaret Dignum replied with two apiece for Pandas.

Littleton Jackson Five then showed strong form to beat Pandas 6-4.

Rosie Phillpot was the key player for Jackson Five with a trio of wins, holding her nerve to beat Margaret Dignum 13-11 in the fifth set.
