RICH and Ian Evans took winners’ places in two events at the Northampton Head of the Nene event raced over the 1,800-metre upstream course.
Despite driving snow, rain, icy cold temperatures and a crash into the river bank near the finish, the brothers as an Evesham/Hollowell Scullers composite beat Derwent RC into second by 11 seconds and Oundle doubles into third and fourth in a time of six minutes 26.6 seconds.
The pair raced in the masters D doubles category in a boat named after Ian Evans’ twins Oscar and Dillon.
The effort also gave them the fastest time of all doubles and 10th fastest overall on the day.
Rich Evans also took on masters C competitors in his single scull, picking up his second win by beating Hollowell Scullers by seven seconds and Stratford into third place in a time of 7.19.8.
