ST EGWIN'S Middle School under-11 boys enjoyed home comforts in the county stage of the English Schools Team Table Tennis Association Championship.

Josh Robinson, Will Green, Oli Butler and Nathan Wall triumphed by beating Alvechurch 5-3, Littleton A 7-1, Littleton B 6-2 and drawing with Blackminster 4-4.

Anna Blakely, Matilda Neale, Beatrice Yates and Scarlett Preen of Littleton A was successful in the under-11 girls' section, while Rebecca Arrandale, Sophie Arrandale, Emily Grove and Beth Pye won the under-13 girls' prize for Bredon Hill Academy, deposing Blackminster who had been champions every year since 2009.

Blackminster's Johnny Blakely, Danny Norman, Harvey Gough, Robbie Clear and Harry Hawkins-Pitts won the under-13 boys' crown and Alex Emms, Jon Lyons, Luke Fisher and Ben Robinson of Prince Henry’s of Evesham took the honours in the under-16 boys' section.

Bromsgrove School provided the only entrants in the under-16 and under-19 girls with the A teams beating the B teams in both. Bromsgrove beat Prince Henry's in the only clash to decide the under-19 boys.

The winning teams go through to the zone final stage at Wood Green Academy, Wednesbury in January where they will meet the winners from Birmingham, West Midlands, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.
