LINDA Carruthers and Jayne Rose continued their ascent towards the top of Broadway’s Ladies’ Winter League with 16 points in a nine-hole greensomes hampered by torrential rain.
The duo won through from a field of 20 pairs, trumping closest rivals Irene Hawkes and Andi Stedman, Julia Fortescue and Molly King-Smith and Esther Pettitt and Louise McKee and by a single score with the three pairs finishing in that order on countback.
Chris Davis and David Goodwin belied the cold snap to emerge victorious in the men’s section, scoring 45 to top a list of 60 teams on countback.
Sam McPherson and Chris Smith came in second and Paul Whelan and Dereck Buttler third despite racking up the same score. Justin Loram and Ian Weatherhead (44) finished fourth. The next rounds take place next month.
