EVESHAM'S Alex Doherty claimed top honours in the Thruxton Sprint Duathlon.

A time of 57:50 saw the 34-year-old become the only competitor to finish inside the hour mark and he now hopes to continue his form to qualify for the European and world age group championships.

Doherty's sprint duathlon comprised a 3.8k run and 19k bike ride with an average speed of 24mph during the latter in spite of facing the wrath of Storm Brian.

He races for Goode2swim who are led by coach Richard Goode.
