A BROADWAY quartet won their joint captains' charity open am-am.

Club captain Jim Hutchison and ladies' captain Brenda Corfield hosted 148 competitors from more than 30 venues across the country.

While a little breezy, the day remained fine with two scores counting on each hole.

Broadway seniors' captain Chris Hunt, Brian Campbell, Bruno Giversen and Lloyd Stephens took full home advantage with 91 points.

Also scoring 91 but losing out on countback were Lee Egerton, James Richardson, Kenneth Sheridan and James Melfin from Hagley.

The day raised £2,970 from entry fees and raffle proceeds which will be divided between charities Bloodwise and St Richard's Hospice.

The raffle prize of a family holiday was donated by Stuart and Lindsay Harris, a Bewdley Pines couple who for many years have enjoyed playing at Broadway.

The winners, Broadway’s Ian and Judith Noyce, look forward to visiting southern France next June.

The ladies competed in their final qualifying stableford of the season with a tricky wind and drizzle.

Vice-captain Maggie McDivitt scored 35 points to win ahead of Barb Buggin on 34, Judith Noyce on 31 and Valerie Steven on 30.

Ann Fairbairn was first in the nine-hole competition with 14.

Seventy-four Broadway men competed in their medal.

Jamie Thomas topped Division One with 68 nett ahead of Guy Madgwick and Stephen Pollard who took second and third places respectively with both on 69.

In Division Two, Joe Williams earned 68 to clinch top spot with Brian Wright narrowly missing out on countback.

David Kelsall was third with 69.
