THE 2017 Peter Maddison Master of Midshires grasstrack meeting was held in front of a huge crowd on a glorious hot day near Ashorne.

The popular event included many of England's top speedway and grasstrack stars.

With all the heat on and off the track it was difficult to keep it free from dust and only the 250cc solo class final could be run.

All the other classes were awarded on the points gained from the heats.

The one final was won in fine style by the unbeaten Henry Atkins ahead of David Knowles, Graham Thomas and Charlie Brooks.

The 350cc solo went to Belle Vue Colts speedway star Andy Mellish followed by Dave Mears and Mark Giles.

Ex-speedway star Peter Carr beat former British champion Stephen Green to the upright solo title with Mike Dowling third.

The 500cc solo championship class went to speedway ace Edward Kennett followed by Gloucestershire's Zack Wajtknecht and James Wright.

Tim Nobes from Wickhamford was fourth overall with two heat wins.

The 1000cc sidecars was taken by Mark Cossar and Carl Blyth ahead of Paul Whitelam and Alan Elliott, Rob Wilson and Bradley Steer and Rob Bradley and Jake Fumarola.

The Guernsey crew of Clint Blondel and Kevin Bennett picked up the Paul Pinfold Trophy and the Peter Maddison Trophy for best sidecar.

Mitch Godden and Paul Smith topped the 500cc sidecar super series from Shaun Harvey and Danny Hogg and Josh Goodwin and Liam Brown.

Vale rider Scott Cresswell had to withdraw from the meeting due to his bike not being ready.
