EVESHAM'S Olly Turner secured a podium place at Snetterton in the BRSCC Ford Fiesta Junior Championship.

A positive test day showed much promise and scope with the young driver clocking a personal best of two minutes 20.2 seconds.

Turner, 14, was off the pace the next morning with a car issue the team quickly sorted for further practice but an accident cut short the session.

He had consolidated in the past four rounds and set off for the 20-minute qualifying on new tyres with experience under his belt.

Having warmed up after two laps Turner turned up the heat and enjoyed the three-mile circuit.

He consistently put in 2.20 laps and although frustrated the times had not put him further up on the starting grid it was still a personal best qualifying position.

Rain threatened on the race day but the first contest started in the dry.

A disappointing first handbrake start on the hill put Turner down to ninth on the first lap, losing two positions.

He still had some battles with fellow racers and finished seventh overall.

Race two was all to play for and a fast, accurate start saw Turner move from seventh to fifth in wet conditions.

The front-runners were close for the first quarter before the top two got away but Turner worked his way up and eventually on the last turn for the line took third spot.

The delighted racer took the driver of the meeting award for the second time in a row and he looks forward to the next outing at Silverstone in August.
