AN honorary member of the Professional Golfers' Association who started playing the sport at Broadway has died aged 61.

John Reynolds was born in Station Road, Chipping Campden, in 1955 and took up golf at the club in 1966 aged 11.

His father Leo was captain at Broadway in 1967 and his grandfather James had led the seniors' section.

Reynolds went on to become a professional in 1971 while living in Hertfordshire and played against Spanish legend Seve Ballesteros in the Sun Alliance Matchplay Championship in 1977.

He was a professional at Crews Hill, Enfield, for 20 years, national disciplinary and membership committee chairman at the PGA among other roles and won 37 tournaments worldwide.

Reynolds moved to East Anglia in 1998 to be professional and then golf manager at the Royal West Norfolk club, King's Lynn.

On retiring from golf seven years ago he became licensee of dog boarding kennels.

Reynolds, who was twice married and is survived by three sisters Mary, Susan and Julie, was made an honorary member of the PGA in July 2015.

He was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in April and died on July 6.

His funeral will be at 12.15pm on Monday at Mintlyn Crematorium, King's Lynn.
