BEV Howard clinched the prestigious Golf Foundation brooch after winning a ladies’ competition at Broadway Golf Club.

In-form Howard shot 37 points to win the bronze division in the Golf Foundation stableford and also claimed the top honour.

Louise Folkes and Barb Buggin battled it out for second, both matching Howard’s return of 37. However, Folkes was second on a countback.

Julia Fortesque led the field in silver division with 35 points as 38 ladies competed.

Jayne Rose and Jenny Buchan shared a score of 34 points with Rose edging into second spot on a countback.

Rain had been predicted but the players were greeted by a dry day and superb playing conditions.

Joshua Coleman shot 49 points to win the juniors’ Roy Cumper Cup.

It was donated by Cumper in his year as club captain in 1990 for the best individual stableford score.

William Jones was second to Coleman after returning 47.

Keiran Nelhams did well to take third with 46 points, while Ambrose Eaves was fourth on a countback.

Steve Webb strode into first position with a 62 nett and a lowest gross of 70 in the men’s Division One and Two medals.

Club president Richard Rouse, with a 64 nett, was second and Chris Davis’ finished third with 67.

Peter Arch scored a 65 nett to take first place in Division Two. Paul Walker, with 66, finished second and Andy Basford, with 71, was third. A total of 82 competitors took part.
