SEVEN Bourton Roadrunners attempted to emulate the great Le Mans 24-hour race in a festival at Wasing Park near Reading.

There was no Steve McQueen or any fast cars, but Bourton’s athletes finished 53rd out of 203 teams in the annual Endure 24 running festival.

Chris Lomax, Steph Holton, Linda Edwards, Chris Dry, Graham Lane, Susan Hunt and Gary Holton worked as a team.

They ran five-mile, off-road laps continuously for 24 hours from midday on Saturday through the night to midday on Sunday.

The sleep-deprived Bourton seven shared great camaraderie with more than 3,000 runners from other teams and completed a creditable 32 laps, totalling 160 miles.

After a well earned rest the team made their way back to the Cotswolds.

Anyone interested in running should meet at Bourton Leisure Centre on Tuesdays at 7pm and Thursdays at 6.30pm.
