A FIVE-wicket haul from Jack Murphy helped Shipston-on-Stour Cricket Club to an exciting 16-run home win against Long Itchington in the Cotswold Hills League Premier Division.

Opener Harry Dube (75) laid the foundations of Shipston’s 212-9 after the hosts had slipped to 84-3 at one stage.

Good contributions from Paul Cross (19), Gary Betteridge (12) and Tom Cox (12) supported Dube, while Sam Dexter (12) also chipped in with valuable runs.

Long Itchington progressed to 79-3 after 22 overs before Dave Pyne (1-9 from 10 overs) helped to restrict the scoring rate over the next 10 overs to give the hosts a slight advantage.

Murphy (5-33) completed his maiden league five-wicket haul as visitors reached 147-7 with five overs remaining.

The impressive R Deso finished unbeaten on 73, including a six off the last ball, but Long Itchington closed on 196-7.
