PERSHORE Swimming Club’s Hannah Woodcock won seven medals - including two golds - at the Regional Championships in Coventry.

Swimming in the 13-year category, Woodcock clinched gold medals in the 100m freestyle (1.01.89) and the 50m backstroke (33.60s), silver in the 50m freestyle (28.75s) and 50m breaststroke (36.92s).

She also took bronze in the 100m backstroke (1:12.80), 50m butterfly (31.85s), 200m breaststroke (2:54.92).

Woodcock was among 17 swimmers from Pershore who had qualified for the regional event under the guidance of Tom Naughton.

The championships were laid out over five days and two weekends of gruelling competition in 50m pool in Coventry.

The events comprised of heats and finals right through to 400m individual medley which further tested the swimmers.

Chris Vizard (15 secured bronze medals in the 50m freestyle (26.77s), 50m breaststroke (34.61s) and 100m butterfly (1:03.81).

Amy Weston (15) competed in the 16-year age group, winning bronze in the 50m backstroke in 32.91s and coming fourth in the 200m backstroke (2:29.47).

Alex Barry (13) was fourth in the 200m freestyle (2:18.61) and 200m backstroke (2:39.16). She achieved top 10 finishes in the 800m freestyle, 400m individual medley, 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 50m backstroke,100m freestyle and 400m freestyle.

Patrick Heeks (13) was fourth in both the 100m and 200m butterfly and top 10 in the 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 50m backstroke and 200m individual medley.

Other top-10 finishes: Luke Perry (15) 100m breaststroke, 8th; 50m breaststroke, 5th; Hamish Cross (13) 50m breaststroke, 10th; 50m butterfly, 4th; Jaz Franks (12) 50m butterfly, 6th; Jaz Taite (17) 50m backstroke, 4th.

Emily Drayton (13), Bella Barry (11), Izzie Cumming (14), Alfie Brown (13), Max Murray (12) were among those who also qualified from Pershore.

A club spokesman said: “It’s a massive achievement to reach regional standard and Pershore Swimming Club are hugely proud of the 17 qualifiers. The swimmers move on to Cardiff as a final push to try and achieve national qualifying times.”
