THREE players from Pershore Tennis Centre represented Herefordshire and Worcestershire in the under 16s 12 Counties event in Corby.

For the girls, Pershore’s Imogen Looker played at number two for the county and club-mate Lucie Palmer was at four.

Their first match was against Buckinghamshire and top seed Imogen Sinclair started off with a convincing win. Looker played a higher-rated girl and played well to secure the first set 5-3.

The Herefordshire and Worcestershire girl had a wobble and lost the second 4-0 before coming back to win the tie-break third set.

Katy Lewin also won her match in three sets and, despite playing well, Palmer lost her first encounter but still the team had a good 3-1 win to start the day.

Next they faced Northamptonshire and all four girls played well, winning in straight sets to give the county a well-deserved 4-0 win.

The final round was against Bedfordshire and, showing great team spirit and determination, all four girls again won in straight sets for another 4-0 win to finish the day in first place.

For the boys, Pershore’s Matt Sime played at number four and battled hard but lost his first match and then won the next two rounds.

The team finished the day in second place.

Overall, having played the 10 and under, 14 and under and 16 and under age groups, Herefordshire and Worcestershire lie in first place with just the 12s and 18s to play next month.
